Jamdani weaving
The supplementary-weft muslin tradition of the Shitalakshya basin, inscribed by UNESCO in 2013.
Jamdani is woven on a pit loom by two artisans working in tandem, inserting each motif by hand rather than by mechanical jacquard. The technique descends from Dhaka muslin and survives today largely in Rupganj and Sonargaon, both on the Shitalakshya. A single sari can take from two weeks to a full year depending on motif density.
